A visit to Daruluwa kanishta vidyalaya
26th October 2016 was one of the memorable day for all who gathered at the Daruluwa kanishta vidyalaya. As planned the session was successfully conducted by the NutSoc. The day started with the Street drama. This brought the attention of all the students, parents and teachers. Screening and counseling was very useful for students. Further the guest lecturing by the senior lecture AMNT Adikari and lecture Jeewanandi Hettiarachi gained attention of both the parents and staff. In spite of the fact that this programme was arranged for the request of the of the principal the NutSoc was able to contribute to enhance the nutritional status of the students.
Selling sandwiches and milk
NutSoc always wanted to connect the university with community. It did not confine the meaning of community to people outside the university premises. The selling of Fresh milk and sandwiches for the people inside the university premises,specially for the students. This is one of the programme that has been done by NutSoc for nearly past 5 years. Apart from this being a fund raising programme,this was focussed more towards providing nutritious breakfast to the university community.
The Diabetes walk 2016 was held on 2016.11.13 informing the public on diabetes. The walk was started from the independence square to the BMICH. The theme of the diabetes walks 2016 was “Act today to change tomorrow”. Participation of NutSoc specially the third year students of department of Applied Nutrition added more color to the walk. Further the NutSoc provided the opportunity for the participants of the walk to get the free nutritional counselling from professional dieticians. The stalls of the NutSoc were designed to educate the public according to the theme.
Selling raffle draw tickets
The “Wayamba sithru” is a remarkable mile stone in the history of “NutSoc”. Selling raffle draw tickets were the major fund raising event. The members of NutSoc went all around the island in selling raffle draw tickets. NutSoc members gave whole their effort in popularizing the event and raising fund in making “Wayamba sithru” a success.
Selection of arts
“Wayamba Sithru” began the journey by selecting the arts. Initially the arts were selected by the members of NutSoc according to criteria given. After that most suitable judge panel selected the winners. The selection took two days of hard work by the judge panel
The raffle draw was held on 22nd of March 2017. The dean of the faculty of livestock, fisheries and nutrition was the chief guest of the event. The Head of the department of agribusiness management Rupika Abesinghe and Assistant Registar of FLFN K.G Inoka Udayangani were the guest of the honour. Further the head of the department of Applied Nutrition Dr Anoma Chandrasekara and other staff members together with the members of the Nutsoc witness the event.
“Wayamba Sithru 2016” Award Ceremony & Art Exhibition
The award ceremony and the art exhibition of the ‘Wayamba Sithru’ All island school art competition organized by the Nutrition Society of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka was successfully held at the University auditorium, Kuliyapitiya on 05th May 2017. The chief guest of the event was the vice chancellor of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka Prof. S.J.B.A. Jayasekara and the guest of honor was Dr. M.S.W. De Silva, the Dean of Faculty of Livestock, Fisheries, and Nutrition. All the lecturers of the Department of Applied Nutrition, the students of the faculty, winners, parents and students from schools oF Pannala and Kuliyapitiya area witnessed the event. First, second and third place winners of all four age categories were given cash prizes, medals, certificates and key tags. First 100 winners were awarded certificates and all the valid participants of the competition were given key tags. Prizes of ‘Wayamba Sithru Raffle Draw” were also distributed at the event. The event was colored by the elegant dancing items of Saranath National School, Kuliyapitiya and the second year students of the faculty.
